With the Audigy I got sound in GPL through all speakers, but that may have been because the 5700 receiver was then set to emulate 5.1. I now have the nForce2 sound set to decode to 5.1 so now if there is only a stereo signal, I guess it will only go through the 2 speakers. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to keep

I would NEVER buy a motherboard with a chipset like the NForce2 again. I figured I was going out and getting a great board but it has been nothing but trouble. WOOOoblem on a Shuttle AN35n Ultra (Nforce 2) with an mx440 card. I also had poor audio, unable to get 5.1 surround with nvidias drivers.

Sounds like you have an nforce2-board. If you search the archives, you'll find that you can install 5.2 (or 5.2.1) on this board by disabling ACPI during the ..... It was removed because with devfs, device entries don't always exist, so an unconfigured device is now going to result in ENOENT rather than ENXIO.

8RGA - built in sound LOUD
I've got a nForce 2 motherboard. I prefer my SBLive. That's as maybe, but the nForce2 solution will chew less machine cycles, and the SB drivers are noted for so it wasn'ta case of going to buy it especially. Yes, there are (at least) two solutions: the cheap one, and the 5.1/Sounstorm, with SPDIF etc. etc.

I have also verified this speed with wcpuid basically what we have done is overclock the cpu via the fsb. and got ourselves a 3200 speed cpu. the correct fsb setting for the 2500 barton on this board is 166 hope this helps. That siad, I run 512 in 5 of my machines and laptop and have 1GB in this box, which also does video editing and gaming. Ram is cheap enough now to have that luxury. I still rember when I lusted after an additional 16 megs of fast page ram for my win95 machine that had 16MB installed. That was when Quake 1 came out.

When I got my NF7S board I dumped my Audigy for a while and used the onboard nforce2 MCP2-T sound. The quality of sound - even though it was 5.1 - just wasn't I'm going to make the switch from the SBLive to a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz GPL will get better framerate with onboard sound if you have a newer revision

K7N2-L Delta Lockups in certain games.
Anybody with an AT7 got their 5.1 AC3 working yet using s/pdif?????........ I've been trying now for nearly 7 months to get it working. with 5.1 soundtracks AFAIK, but I could be wrong. If you want everything in 5.1, including games/sound effects/music, get an nForce2 mobo, which upmixes everything to 5.1 channels.
